The NBA: Its FanTerrific!

lakers logo

NBA teams are always using their “culture” as an asset in trying to get free agents. The Dallas Mavericks’ “culture” was so good that they lost out on Deron Williams and Dwight Howard.  It was close though!   What is this “culture” teams keep talking about?   We here at Ballerball, are doing an in-depth look at NBA team culture. Welcome to“The NBA: Its FanTerrific!!”

The Los Angeles Lakers

Starpower

“I always dreamed about ruling the world, but now that I’m getting older I would settle for ruling Hollywood.”

– Ari Gold, Entourage,  (a show dudes watched in the mid 2000s)

You want to talk about Culture? Lets talk Starpower! The Hollywood Elite are all die hard Lakers Fans. I mean who doesn’t want to play in front of HUGE stars like Penny Marshall, Flea, Dyan Cannon, and Andy Garcia?? It doesn’t get bigger than that! Can you imagine hitting the game winning shot for this storied franchise, then at the after party you find yourself next to Penny Marshall and you guys are talking “A League of Their Own” while David Arquette is sending you a drink. Come play for the Lakers and you get to hang out with all the Mega Movie Stars!

The Beach!

“The fog was where I wanted to be. Halfway down the path you can’t see this house. You’d never know it was here. Or any of the other places down the avenue. I couldn’t see but a few feet ahead. I didn’t meet a soul. Everything looked and sounded unreal. Nothing was what it is. That’s what I wanted—to be alone with myself in another world where truth is untrue and life can hide from itself. Out beyond the harbor, where the road runs along the beach, I even lost the feeling of being on land. The fog and the sea seemed part of each other. It was like walking on the bottom of the sea. As if I had drowned long ago. As if I was the ghost belonging to the fog, and the fog was the ghost of the sea. It felt damned peaceful to be nothing more than a ghost within a ghost.”

Eugene O’Neill, Long Day’s Journey Into Night

NBA players, hate the cold and love the summertime fun of the beach. KG runs on the beach every summer, Baron Davis rides beach cruises around Venice Beach looking for 10 day contracts! Come to LA where the weather is perfect and the beach is only a quick 2.5 hours of traffic away!

A Winning Tradition

“All I do is Win”

– DJ Khaled

16 Championships. 31 Conference Championships. 21 Hall of Famers. 1 Smush Parker. You want to be immortal, come play for the Lakers! They win most of the basketball games.

Kobe

“You’re not good enough! I hate you! You are the worst and this is making you stronger! THANK ME!!”

– Probably someone’s Dad

You want to win? Come to LA and play with a Sociopath who values winning above everything, especially just being a nice decent human. Sure you’ll get screamed at in practice, sure he’ll glare at you if you make a single turn over, but he is a champion that wills you into submission- submission of a champion! Plus now he wearing all black suits on the sideline like he’s a movie villain. I can’t wait for Kobe’s Hall of Fame speech its going to make Michael Jordan look like Jimmy V.

LA has culture to spare. I didn’t even mention that they turn the lights off on the crowd or that on Sunday home games they wear Lake White Unis. Do the Lakers define it’s Culture or does it’s Culture define Lakers? Who cares! Lets get drinks at the Roosevelt then play candy crush on our phones while we sit in 405 traffic! I love LA!
