MVP 5-VS-5: LEBRON JAMES

i (1)

Kevin Love hosts today’s MVP discussion on LeBron James’ chances for taking home the award.

1. What’s the leading reason for LeBron James to be the MVP?

Russell Westbrook:

Anthony Davis:

James Harden:

LeBron James: What a great question, Kevin, and I think the leading reason is my leadership.

Stephen Curry:

2. Do you believe that once a player is an MVP that he’s always an MVP?

Russell Westbrook:

Anthony Davis:

James Harden:

LeBron James: You know, Kevin, I think I do. Winning the award is like joining a secret fraternity within a special fraternity, only it’s not really a secret because they give you a trophy in front of everyone and record the moment on Wikipedia for purposes of historical preservation.

Stephen Curry:

3. If a past MVP isn’t named MVP again, is he in decline?

Russell Westbrook:

Anthony Davis:

LeBron James: Oh, by no means. I think it just means that a player’s greatness is implied. Some people go transparent, like in Dave Eggers’ The Circle. It just so happens I’ve gone implicit.

James Harden:

Stephen Curry:

4. Isn’t implicit like a synonym for invisible?

Russell Westbrook:

Anthony Davis:

LeBron James: Look, I’m not the one people can’t trust in the fourth quarter. That being said, you’re a great teammate.

Stephen Curry:

5. How does it make you feel, LeBron, that none of the other guys responded to my group email about your MVP candidacy?

Russell Westbrook:

Anthony Davis:

James Harden:

LeBron James: Huh. Really? No one responded? Sometimes these awards can be so petty and trivial. The award would probably mean a lot to Harden; he strikes me as a guy who needs validation. He’s hiding behind that beard when all he really needs to do is go implicit. Russ and Anthony probably don’t have the time to think about it. I mean, they’re locked in a Playoff battle to see who can lose in the First Round. I guess what you have to ask yourself is whether the Golden State Warriors could afford to sit a player like yourself at the end of games if you had ended up there instead of Cleveland. The Cavs can, and the Cavs have me. Again, though, that’s all hypothetical. I’m totally comfortable being implicit. I don’t need another trophy when I already have four.
