This post shows the standings of Ballerball’s First Annual Fantasy NBA Power Rankings League. Go here for an in-depth look at this week’s Power Rankings, courtesy of Ballerball’s Dr. Power Ranker.
Last week, Ballerball contributors got together and drafted teams for a new fan experience: Fantasy Power Rankings. We drafted teams based on how well we thought they’d do in various Power Rankings across the course of a season.
We looked at 8 different Power Rankings, and added up all the points for all the teams. Here’s how the point total’s looking through Week 1 (lower is better):
With his team of Celtics, Pacers, Mavericks, and Hornets, Jason jumped to an early lead in both the Badge Cup and the point standings, overcoming Dan’s Heat and Knicks (and Jazz and Kings).

In addition to points, we’re awarding badges for “winning” weekly Power Rankings. Jason’s point success carried over to Badges, winning 4. Dan and Wade won two apiece.
Human Badge (ESPN Stein): Dan, who benefited from Stein’s benevolent attitude towards the Jazz.
Yoohoo Badge (Yahoo!): Wade rode Milwaukee’s 9 spot to victory.
JAG Badge (CBS): Dan lives by the Knicks and dies by the Knicks. He beat Jason 50-51 in our closest Badge of the week.
Barrel Roll Badge (Fox): In the most dominating performance of the week, Jason had a jaw-dropping 35 points, with the Hornets being his worst seed at 13.
Where Badge Happens (NBA.com): It’s a good thing Jason homer-picked his Mavs with his third pick. They are his rock.
Buzz Beamer Badge (Sports Illustrated): Look at Jason’s new badge here, it’s a guy skateboarding on a pencil.
Cosby Badge (NBC): Jason won another close one over Dan, 49-52, but more noteworthy is Mike’s insanely high 85 points.
Sad Boy Nation Badge (SB Nation): SB Nation was nice to the Thunder and Grizzlies, and didn’t subscribe to Buck cynicism. A winning formula for Wade.
Dr. Power Ranker Polar Badge: Awarded by Dr. Power Ranker for owning the most polarizing team of the week, Mike won with the Lakers occupying both a 3 spot (Sports Illustrated) and a 23 spot (CBS). Note: Boston, Denver, and Milwaukee all had a discrepancy of 18 spots.
Dr. Power Ranker Conformity Badge: FBJ and Ben walk away with half a badge apiece; FBJ for the Spurs always being ranked 1 or 2, and Ben for the Pistons, who forfeited complete failure when they gave the Wizards the bottom spot in NBC’s rankings.
Badge Cup Totals: Jason 4, Dan 2, Wade 2, Mike 1, Ben .5, FBJ .5, Tyler 0.
-Next week, we’ll add badges for risers and fallers. Here’s the full point rundown (which will only be looked at by those in the contest).
